I have been teaching voice and acting lessons to students in the Northern Virginia area for four years now and began my own voice training in the area as well. I hold Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre from The Catholic University of America in D.C. and have been training in musical theatre, classical, and pop styles for twelve years. I believe that any exposure to musical training is helpful in leading a balanced life.
Studying music helps us build critical thinking and problem solving skills while also being a great source of joy! In lessons, I emphasize the importance of bringing awareness to the whole body because the instrument we are focusing on is in fact our whole selves. I strive to create a safe environment for students to take risks and lean into the vulnerability that comes with improving vocal and breathing technique.
What do lessons look like?
I offer regular weekly or bi-weekly voice lessons in which we work on note accuracy, breathing technique, vocal technique, and building appropriate repertoire. The same is available for regular acting lessons in which we focus on articulation, breathing, and speech work as well as building acting skills needed for monologue, scene, or song work. The focus of these lessons can be adjusted for what vocal or acting styles you wish to zero in on.
Audition coaching is also available for school, community, or professional auditions in musicals or plays. We can discuss if one or more coaching sessions would be appropriate depending on the details of your upcoming audition!
At the moment, I offer online lessons over Zoom or Skype, we can discuss how to up the microphone quality if this method is decided upon. I offer a handful of in-person lesson slots for fully vaccinated students only. These lessons are located at my own residence in which everyone, including myself is also fully vaccinated.
